In 2007-08, more than 90% of UW-Superior degree-seeking international students receive between $5,500 and $7,500 in financial aid through the Tuition Award Program.

TAP Grants

The University of Wisconsin-Superior seeks to promote diversity on its campus.  To this end, the University has established the Tuition Award Program (TAP), which grants qualified non-resident degree-seeking students a $5,500 partial waiver of their non-resident tuition expenses.

Through TAP Grants, the University hopes to make the cost of studying at UW-Superior affordable to a wider range of students from diverse backgrounds. Both undergraduate and graduate international students may apply for TAP Grants. To apply, students should submit a completed TAP application form along with the rest of their application materials. TAP Grants are awarded on a first-admitted, first-awarded basis, with consideration for academic achievement and availability.

A complete description TAP grant, including several restrictions, can found in the TAP Grant Application. The TAP Grant is subject to the terms in the award letter.

Global TAP Scholarships

Degree-seeking international students with a strong record of academic achievement may also be eligible for a $2,000 Global TAP Scholarship. The scholarship is renewable and aims to further UW-Superior’s tradition of having an active international student population that is culturally diverse and academically strong.

Global TAP Scholars are also awarded a $5,500 TAP Grant (see above) and thus have the non-resident portion of their tuition reduced by a total of $7,500.

Students who submit a TAP application form will automatically be given consideration for a Global TAP Scholarship. Note that special consideration is given for achievement demonstrated through scores submitted from the SAT, ACT, International Baccalaureate program, internationally-administered A-Level exams or other national standardized examinations. Financial need and campus diversity may be taken into consideration. A written personal statement and one or more letters of recommendation are encouraged.

Athletic ability is not a criterion for the Scholarship. International students who are from North, Central and South America are not eligible for the Global TAP Scholarship but are eligible for other financial aid. The Global TAP Scholarship is subject to the terms in the award letter.

Beecroft Grants

Beecroft Grants are loans of up to $500 per year that students repay by working an adequate number of hours in an assigned job on campus. Athletes and social work majors are not eligible.

UW-Superior Foundation Scholarships

The UW-Superior University Foundation sponsors scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students. International students who have already begun their studies at UW-Superior are eligible to apply for over 100 Foundation scholarships, which are awarded by individual academic departments.

Student Employment

The majority of UW-Superior international students hold jobs on campus. U.S. immigration laws allow for student employment under specific conditions. International students in F-1 status are allowed to work on campus up to 20 hours per week while school is in session and full-time during breaks and holidays. Off-campus employment is not allowed except under limited conditions set out by U.S. immigration laws. The University is not able to guarantee employment for all students, and students are responsible for finding their own employment.
