Proof of adequate English proficiency is required from all non-native English speaking applicants. Applicants who are uncertain whether they are required to submit proof of English proficiency are encouraged to contact the Office of International Programs.

Students who do not meet the English proficiency requirement may apply for CONDITIONAL ADMISSION.

 WESLI Recommendation

Applicants who study at the Wisconsin English as a Second Language Institute (http://www.wesli.com/) can satisfy the English proficiency requirement by 1) receiving the WESLI Recommendation, 2) scoring at least 76 on the Michigan Test of English Language Proficiency and 3) earning a rating of good or excellent on the 700-level academic reading and writing courses.

Other Acceptable Tests/Qualifications/Courses

• English composition course passed at an accredited English-medium university located in a country where English is the dominant language. The course must count as transfer credit at UW-Superior and be C or higher.
  

• International Baccalaureate (IB) English A1 or A2 Higher Level passed with minimum grade 4.
  

• Completion of Level 112 at an ELS language center. The nearest center is 2.5 hours away in St. Paul, Minnesota.
  

• A score of 450 or higher on theSAT critical reading section.
  

• A score of 18 on the ACT English section.
  

• A grade of C or higher on GCE A-levels (General Certificate of Education) or a grade of C or higher on GCSE O-levels (General Certificate of Secondary Education) taken from an internationally administered testing body.
