Wisconsin in Scotland

Living in a castle, experiencing another culture, traveling through Europe, making friends, learning about yourself  -- those are all part of the Wisconsin in Scotland experience. Here's what UW-Superior students say about it:

“Scotland was a life-changing experience for me. It forced me to realize that I am capable of more than I ever thought possible. Learning how to balance classes, homework, having fun, and traveling, forced me to realize that I wasn't a kid anymore. The Wisconsin in Scotland program provided insight into the differences between cultures, provided an experience unparallel to anything here in the States, and allowed me the opportunity to live in one of the most beautiful palaces, in one of the most beautiful countries, in the world. It also gave me the opportunity to interact with a ton of people I never would have met otherwise. Whether it is the professors, the chef Henry, the boys down at the local pub, or my 74 new brothers, sisters, and fellow students, I left there knowing that I was a different person for going to Scotland and befriending all of them.”

“Scotland was the BEST time of my life. Not only did I learn more in the three and a half months I was there than I have in my whole life, but it was fun, too. I saw more of the world than almost anyone I know. I have had so many experiences to share with everyone. When I see some country or city in a book that I have been to, I get all warm and fuzzy inside, thinking ‘How many people could actually relate to that?’ Plus, now that I am back on campus, there is a small community of us who have this experience in common and always will and, therefore, we will always be friends. I am sure I will be friends with some of these people for life.”

Dalkeith Castle

Dalkeith Castle -- home for our Wisconsin in Scotland students.

”Spending six weeks of my summer in Scotland was a life-changing, unforgettable experience! I met so many awesome people, saw so many amazing things, and created everlasting memories. Dalkeith is a great place to live -- it's a small town and has easy and convenient access to the city life of Edinburgh. The estate is so beautiful, and every time you take a walk through it you find something new to explore. We took a few local house trips -- Edinburgh Castle, Arthur's Seat, and a hill walking trip in the Scottish Borders, and I learned so much about Scottish history, culture, geology, and environment through these opportunities. I tell everyone I know to go to Scotland through this program--it's just too amazing to miss out on!”

“Studying abroad was something I never even thought I would be considered to do. I always thought it was for those really advanced people, who knew exactly what they were going to do with their lives, but all I had to do was apply and I was accepted. And now I still can’t believe that I lived in another country for four months. Wow!! It was an experience of a lifetime like everyone said it would be! I never imagined that I would actually fulfill one of my dreams of traveling to different countries, let alone living there. Almost every weekend I traveled to other countries including Italy, Greece, France, Ireland, and England. I can’t even explain in words how great it was! Of course we had classes, some of which fulfilled my general education requirements, but they were nothing when I thought about where I was, where I was going that weekend, or what I was doing there. When I was in Scotland I lived in a palace with many amazing people, I made lifetime friendships, and I will never forget them!”

Alicia Bourget, Wisconsin in Scotland (Fall 2006)
