UW-Superior competes in one of the most challenging conferences in NCAA Division III. We play against public and private universities throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota as well as other Midwestern states. Several teams travel to tournaments as far away as Arizona and Florida.
UW-Superior has fielded championship teams at the conference and national levels since 1907. Some of our most recent accomplishments include the 2002 NCAA Division III national championship in men's hockey, the 2004 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association championship in women's hockey, and the 2004 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoff championship in softball. Several of our cross country and track runners have competed recently in conference and national meets, and two softball players were named to the Midwest Collegiate All-Star team in the summer of 2004 to play against the U.S. Olympic Softball Team.
Just as important, the Yellowjacket athletic program has a heritage of producing student athletes who perform well in the classroom and complete their degrees. Players on our teams work together to help each other succeed academically.
UW-Superior offers a wide range of academic programs related to athletics and fitness. You'll find programs in physical education, exercise science, health, community health promotion, and wellness and fitness management. We also offer outstanding academic programs in teacher education, science, business, math and computer science and other fields.
In recent years UW-Superior has made a substantial investment in athletic, fitness and recreational facilities. Our 115,000-square-foot Health & Wellness Center opened in 2003. We recently renovated our gymnasium for basketball and volleyball, and our outdoor track recently was rebuilt. Wessman Arena has a new ice surface, state-of-the-art boards, and new locker rooms. Currently, the Jim Dan Hill Library is being renovated, a new Student Center is being constructed, and soon a new academic building - Swenson Hall, will begin construction.
