Any student with sufficient skill can be a member of the Symphonic Band regardless of their major. The only requirement for membership is a desire to make music at the highest possible level, and a willingness to share that music with others in the ensemble and audiences throughout the area.

Each year, UW-Superior hosts the Tri-State Honor Band and Jazz Ensemble Festival. The festival brings 110 of the most outstanding high school instrumentalists in the region to UW-Superior for a day of intensive music making and enjoyment. The students work with nationally known clinicians and Music Department faculty as they prepare a concert, held in the evening.
